Blue World Style: Blue Mars Black and White Outfit for Virtual Business and Metaverse Leisure

I think a lot about how professionals working in virtual environments dress. How should the smart executive in OnLand, the new corporate park in Blue Mars, dress her avatar? It's a topic that I've explored before on other platforms, and every time I return to it I remark on how the expectations of RL office wear tend to translate almost identically to many professionals in virtual spaces. Exceptions can be found of course -- since companies who participate in virtual spaces tend to be more flexible and open-minded, you can find some adventurously dressed corporate avatars from time to time, but the same way that glasses enter into a world where avatar vision is a non-issue, so do our social dress codes.

At the same time, however, I would say that blazers and pressed slacks aren't mandatory. Today I've put together an outfit with this in mind. It's a dash of professionalism mixed with a teaspoon of semi-formal chic, combining to make a look that's bold without being inappropriate, and remains fairly simple to recreate.

  • Both the top and the skirt in this ensemble are from Shade City, as are my favorite square-framed glasses. I love this light, ruffled skirt, but as the mesh is very loosely fitted to the avatar I have had some trouble wearing it in the past. This turtleneck knit top is a perfect fit for it, though, as the folds around the hips fit perfectly over the slight gap at the top of the skirt.
  • Carrying on the black and white look of the top and skirt, I'm wearing my favorite pumps from 8502.Bauhaus in GridRock City. For a bit more detail on them, check out this look I styled around them when they were first released.
  • My hair is from Tirion Designs in Tharsis Estates (a style I've probably been over-wearing lately to tell the truth!)
  • For note, my pictures for this article were taken at OnLab.
